It's really going to depend on timetables Matt, Roscoff Ferry gets into Roscoff at 11 AM local time on the Friday morning. It allows you all day friday to travel at your leisure. The Run across England on the Friday night is tough going and leaves you shattered on the Saturday when you're setting up.

Tolls in France tend to be very dear. I drove right across france up to Switzerland and it cost me almost €100 in tolls. Of course if you are on holiday and not in too much of a hurry you can drive on the secondary roads for free.
