Need some advice please

Never fished with Pellets... Read a lot over the last few weeks still confused as to what type to get or whether to get a pellet Groundbait and fish pellets over the top... Is it necessary to get pellets for the hook and ones for feeding or can you use the same ones for both.. and what size of pellet to use... Should the hook pellet be bigger or smaller than the feed ones... Finally, wood ye add a liquid flavouring to pellets or fish them as they are...
arrrgh confused any simple practical advice would be great

thanks
Merv

I always try and get differents sized pellets so they have a different breakdown / scent release time, 3mm,4mm,6mm,8mm,11mm but have never used any on the hook. I usually use a high attractant pop up 20mm boilie on the hair with a PVA bag of mixed size pellets underneath and this has caught me a few and also you dont have bream eating your hookbait. CCMoores do matching pellet hookers for most of their pellet range i think. Liquids your own choice and you can soak the hook baits in it too.

Your better off having different sizes of pellets Merv, As tony said it helps if they all break down at different times.
Pop-ups are usually the starting point for fishing over them but it does help to try everything you can on the hook as they seem to wise up to one bait if it is all you ever use on the hook, try big pellets 20mm, small 10mm or paste made from crushed down pellets.

Or get some Belachan (scrimp cake)

Belacan, a Malay variety of shrimp paste, is prepared from fresh tiny shrimp of a species known as geragau in Malay. These are mashed into a paste and buried for several months. The fermented shrimp are then dug up, fried and hard-pressed into cakes.
Belacan is used as an ingredient in many dishes, or eaten on its own with rice. A common preparation is sambal belacan, made by mixing belacan with chilli peppers, minced garlic, shallot paste and sugar and then fried. The aroma from the frying mixture can be unpalatable to Westerners who have not become accustomed to it, but is an absolute delight to the Asian connoisseur.

Terasi

Terasi, an Indonesian variant of dried shrimp paste, is usually purchased in dark blocks, but is also sometimes sold ground. The color and aroma of terasi varies depending on which village produced it. The color ranges from soft purple-reddish hue to darkish brown. In Cirebon, a coastal city in West Java famous for fine quality terasi producer, terasi is made from tiny shrimp called "rebon", the very origin of the city's name. In Sidoarjo, East Java, terasi is made from the mixture of ingredients such as fish, small shrimp, and vegetables. Terasi is an important ingredient in Sambal Terasi, also many other Indonesian cuisine, such as sayur asam (fresh sour vegetable soup), lotek (also called gado-gado, Indonesian style salad in peanut sauce), karedok (similar to lotek, but the vegetables are served raw), and rujak (Indonesian style hot and spicy fruit salad).

I get mine from Wing Yip in Birmingham:

But there are some bait suppliers sell it:

And it comes in liquid form:

Merv totally disregard my last post as i was talking a load of shite and snobber obviously took some information of the internet and though to impress us with his I.T skills as it was full to the tits with links.

Right pellets

What are fishing for?
Are you looking to feed the fish or attract them?
What species are present in your water?
What is the stocking of the water?
- How many fish + nuisance species present
Why do you want to use pellet?

There are no answers only questions, ask yourself the questions above and then you will work it out.

One tip I will give you is a 20mm pellet over a bed described by Tom But I would stay away from the popup as when the pellet breaks down the fish are essentially feeding in the silt. Its ground bait.

Anyway if your fishing pellet don’t drill your pellet but tie a lasso and attach the pellet like that as when it swells it tighten and will not come off.

Plus the tench don’t like the pellets until they go soft

What am I fishing for? Mainly Carp and Tench... (both up to 6lb - 8lb)... The matchman in me would not be adverse to hitting a shoal of bream either!! (all species present where I'll be fishing).. plus I'm still saving for my carp gear so I cannot target bigger fish and waters just yet...

I am looking to attract them.... they can feed on my hookbait:twisted: Twisted Evil
Why do I want to use pellets? From the mags I've read and talking to the lad in the tackle shop they're supposed to be excellent for both attracting and catching fish..so I was thinking of using fishmeal groundbait and small 4/5mm pellets and use larger soft ones on the hook???
not sure whether to use some liquid attractant or a glup with them....as some of them are quite oily also...
Will also be using some corn, hemp and other particles for feed and hookbait!!

Once again thanks for the tips mate...
