Andy, get some fresh bait, stay off the readymades, as a rule they are sh*te, and do not do the fish much good either. Both Southside and Maynooth sell fresh bait, Maynooth have 5kg packs that work out alot cheaper, and it is an awsome bait, 6 different ones available. You wont look back!

Dave has Mainline baits in KG packs. Fresh baits normally meet most of the nutritional needs of the fish, ie provides a source of food, and most Readymades will be full of shite and preservatives, they always work short term, but will not give the fish what it needs, so they will not stay feeding on them long term.

| Use the freshest bait you can Andy. Many shops have the same old packs of readymades lying around for ages. At least with the frozen bait you can almost be certain that many of the active ingredients and goodness for that matter are not spoiled by sunlight in the shop window or from lying around for months on end. _________________ "82% of Corkonians believe they are the chosen ones while 18% believe they are the ones who'll do the choosing".

im sorry but i disagree with some of the things the lads are saying no offenence but this is just my opinion... freshly frozen bait is better for carp no question, but for the amount of fishing you do you could do better with shelflife ,if you do single nighters every other week your not trying to establish a bait then you will not feel any other benifit than feeding the carp a good food bait by useing fresh bait the advantages of shelflife far outway the advanages of frozen imo for this amount of hours on the bank, say you arive on a session on a saturday morning with 24 or so hours to spend even a half a kilo of bait could ruin your chances on a lot of irish lakes, and if you dont use the full kilo the rest often gets wasted(or feed to the fish ) single nighters which most of my fishing is ,is done with pva bags filled with pellet and crushed boillies ,usually a good shelflife (good as in catches fish),rods will be cast once if they land right and left there till i have a fish or i have to go home. baits id recomend are the dynimite range from a good tackle shop with a good turn over of customers hence your bait aint lying there years on the shelf you probablly wont go to far wrong with the source and if you get out as often as me a kilo should last the season

Thats really poor advice Colin, Im affraid we see this tactic all too much in Ireland, and in my view part of the reason we are unable to obtain the growth rates we aspire too! We need to feed the fish, so they grow and prosper, you do not need to take all of your bait out of the freezer, just take what you need. Give them what they need, and dont be lazy, establish a bait and stick to it, even if you dont get out much, it pays in the end. Ask Dan why the fish in his lake in France are putting on 10lb a year, and ours are not! Chuck em in the bin!

Do you not need the right weather conditions aswell as lots of bait for our carp, which we do not have. I know in england some of the big carp are very old and it has taken years for them to establish big weights with tones of feed gon in. I suppose time will tell on some of the more established waters like decoy and maynooth here, Getting back to buzz baits andy! a mate of mine had his first irish twenty this year on one of there boilles. Did the job then but fresh bait will help you land alot more carp, that is all i use now cause it alot better for the carp and helps me land a few more..

damo i think i have a point, when lads start carpfishing they need to catch carp or they will lose intrest and give up,if an angler has limited time on the bank he or she may forget about baiting statigies and just try winkle a carp out and if thats all anybody wants out of there angling so be it. ps im sure there are carp over 50lb in france that never seen a boillie but im sure using good bait here wouldnt do any harm

Colin, I dont know one good angler that uses them, or prefers them over fresh bait, but we all have opinions..........it's what makes the world go round. We have two waters with the same fish that I used as a comparision with a french comercial water, apples with apples and all that......
